As the Guardians come into town to take on the Mets this weekend, New York will catch a glimpse of the pieces it sent away in the blockbuster trade for Francisco Lindor.
BT says the series is a reminder that the trade is one Mets fans likely wish they could take back, given the record contract New York committed to Lindor, who hasn’t looked like the hitter he was in Cleveland when he earned four straight All-Star selections.
“There’s no way that I would [do the trade again],” BT said. “I know both guys from the Guardians are having down years. Andrés Giménez was an All-Star last year, really good numbers across the board, and even [Amed] Rosario had nine triples, 70-plus RBI, and a bunch of steals. Good player, not good this year, but when you throw in the money they’re making, I don’t know how any Met fan would say they still do that trade.
“I’ll take it a step further. I think Mets fans are going to grow to hate Francisco Lindor.”
Lindor has struggled this season, but so has Giménez, who is batting just .238, while Rosario has not been much better, batting .247. But BT says regret for the Lindor trade will only escalate in the years to come.
“Come talk to me in two years when he’s 31, not playing well, and making $35 million a year,” BT said.
