Gio: Mets fans who think Max Scherzer tenure has been a success are wearing 'blinders'

Max Scherzer is now serving a 10-game suspension, and even before the suspension was announced, Boomer and Gio agreed that the future Hall of Famer's Mets tenure has largely been a disappointment.

Gio doubled down on that take after the suspension was announced, and says Mets fans who disagree are wearing "blinders."

"I know Mets fans were excited to get Max Scherzer and it felt like a big turning point in the Steve Cohen regime, so a lot of them defend him and want him to be great," Gio said. "But I think they've got the blinders on when it comes to his tenure here. It hasn't been good.

"You want to tell me this has been Tylor Megill over the last two years, I'd say 'Fine, he's been good.' But this is Max Scherzer."

Not only has Gio been disappointed with Scherzer's first year-plus with the Mets, he also doesn't think it's going to improve by the time it's done.

"I don't think it's gonna get much better," Gio said. "If he can't use the sticky stuff at 38 years old, how good is he gonna be.

"There was the dead arm two years ago, last year he couldn't pitch to save his life against the Braves and the padres, so what do the Mets really have in him? Do they have a guy they can trust?"
