Francisco Lindor went 2-for-4 with a home run against the Phillies on Sunday night, accounting for the Mets’ only run in a 7-1 loss that saw New York fall into second place in the NL East.
It was the second straight night that Lindor went yard, as his blast on Saturday marked the 28th consecutive time that the Mets won when Lindor hit a home run.
That streak ended one night later, and per SNY, the Mets came one game short of matching the modern-day MLB record of most consecutive wins when one player hits a home run. The record is held by the Dodgers and Carl Furillo, who did it 28 straight times from 1951 to 1953.
It was a garbage time home run for Lindor, whose solo shot made it 7-1 in the eighth inning, but it was his 16th of the year and his second in as many games after going through a 15-game homer drought before his home run on Saturday.
Prior to Sunday, the last time the Mets lost a game in which Lindor went deep was on July 3 of last season, when New York coughed up a 5-0 lead to the Nationals after Lindor cranked a two-run shot in the fifth to make it 5-0.
