The Mets offense couldn’t get it done in their series opener against the Dodgers, and one of the quiet New York Mets was catcher James McCann.
That has been the status quo for much of McCann’s New York tenure, especially this season. so far in 2022, the 2019 All-Star is batting .185 with a .503 OPS in 44 games around an oblique injury.
“Just keep going,” McCann said. “Don’t let a night like tonight ruin things. Prior to tonight, I’ve been hitting the ball harder and more consistently.”
The results still haven’t materialized, as McCann has just a .608 OPS since signing with the Mets after posting an .808 OPS in his final two seasons in Chicago.
“That’s part of the game,” McCann said. “Sometimes it doesn’t go in your favor. Right now, that’s how it feels for me.”
