Jose Siri to miss extended time with fractured tibia

The Mets stayed hot with a win over the Twins on Monday night, but they also learned that they have lost an outfielder for the foreseeable future.

Manager Carlos Mendoza revealed after Monday’s victory that Jose Siri is being placed on the IL with a fractured left tibia, which means a long absence is likely ahead, as such injuries typically take weeks to months to recover from.

Siri suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his leg on Saturday, forcing him to leave the game.

The veteran outfielder had been struggling to begin his debut season in Queens, managing just one hit in 20 at-bats before the injury. The 29-year-old signed a one-year, $2.4 million contract during the offseason.

Tyrone Taylor could see more time in the outfield in the wake of Siri’s absence, while Brandon Nimmo could potentially to return to center field when needed. Luisangel Acuna is another outfield option given his experience in the minors.
