Justin Verlander gave a blunt assessment of how he pitched in his Citi Field debut on Tuesday night.

“Like s--t,” Verlander said.

Verlander was knocked around for six runs on eight hits in five innings of work, as the Mets stumbled to another loss, falling to three games below .500 on the season. The Rays clubbed two home runs off of Verlander, the second time in three starts this season in which he has allowed multiple homers.

“Not a lot of positives to take out of it,” Verlander said. “I guess the only positive is I know I have some work to do. I already started looking at some video. I think there’s a little something off with my mechanics, and I need to fix it, and fix it in a hurry.

“There’s been plenty of times in my career when you find yourself a little off. There’s certainly no panic button, especially my third start of the season, but sometimes it takes games like this to really kick in and study everything you possibly can to figure out what’s a little off.”

Mets fans don’t want to wait for mechanics to be worked out, as the team is falling further and further back in the NL East, and they expressed their frustration on Tuesday night in the form of boos towards their home team.

“I understand the fans are frustrated,” Verlander said. “We're frustrated too. Everybody's frustrated. We expect to be better. I expect to be better. I think this entire organization expects to be better.”
