Tiki & Tierney say Mets still need another bat for 'fairly impotent' offense

The Mets added a bat in Daniel Vogelbach, but Tiki and Tierney agree that it's going to take much more than that for New York to get to where it wants to be.

Why? Because Tierney says there is enough evidence to show that the Mets offense, as currently constructed, won't get the job done.

"The bottom line is this," BT said during Tuesday's show. "This Mets offense is basically what I told you it would be, and it's fairly impotent. You go back to June 7, these numbers are frightening. This isn't a small sample size.

"Twenty sixth in average, 27th in RISP average, 26th in slugging percentage, 25th in OPS, and 25th in runs per game."

In that time, the Mets' division lead has shrunk to 1.5 games on the defending champion Braves, and the offense had been held in check against the Padres this past weekend before Pete Alonso woke up the bats with a big three-run blast in Sunday's finale. But that has been an exception, and BT says the team needs a bat, and it could find a game changer in Boston.

"This team is built to win now," BT said. "Scherzer, deGrom when he comes back…Marte is not a kid, Escobar is not a kid, this is a team that's supposed to win now. What the Mets should be doing…is the Mets need to be on the phone every single day trying to convince the Red Sox that Boston sucks.

"Soto is not coming here. The target has got to be [J.D. Martinez]."
