A rough Rule 5 Draft for the Mets, who lost LHP Nathan Lavender to the Rays and RHP Mike Vasil to the Phillies in the Major-League phase of the 2024 Rule 5 Draft, and then lost seven more players while making just one selection in the minor-league phase.

Lavender, 24, was a 14^th-round pick in 2021 and is recovering from Tommy John surgery last summer, meaning the Rays can stash him on their 60-day IL until he is healthy. His last full season, 2023, saw him post a 3.48 ERA and notch 86 strikeouts in 54 1/3 innings between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse.
