Mets Notes: Rich Hill could make debut Sunday, Carlos Carrasco will throw another rehab start

Rich Hill, acquired via trade with the Rays on Friday, could make his Mets debut on Sunday, manager Luis Rojas said.

Rojas told reporters on Saturday that the veteran lefty is due to fly in to New York later Saturday afternoon and play catch, and if all goes well, it will be Hill taking the mound in the series finale against the Blue Jays.

The 41-year-old Hill pitched against Toronto earlier this month, allowing three runs on four hits through five innings of work in a 3-1 loss. He has pitched to a 5.40 ERA over his last seven starts.

Despite Hill's recent inefficiency, his presence will be a boost for a depleted Mets rotation that will continue to be without Carlos Carrasco, who will make another minor league start this weekend instead of making his Mets debut. Carrasco was being considered as a rotation option following his last rehab start, but he was tagged for five runs and three home runs in that outing, leading New York to elect to give the veteran righty another turn in the minors.

Carrasco will throw three innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

Jacob deGrom doesn't appear any closer to returning from his right forearm tightness, as Rojas said the Mets ace is still receiving treatment and playing catch, and there is no timetable for deGrom to advance into throwing a bullpen session.

DeGrom, who hasn't pitched since before the All-Star break, could require a rehab assignment of his own by the time he is ready to take the mound again.
