The Mets are continuing to try and patch together lineups and pitching rotations through an unprecedented wave of injuries, and they will still have to wait to get two of their outfielders back.

Both Brandon Nimmo and Albert Almora Jr. are not ready to return from their injuries, despite Almora being eligible to come off the IL on Saturday.

Almora, who suffered a shoulder bruise after a scary collision with the outfield wall on May 11, is still limited to playing catch and has yet to begin swinging a bat. Manager Luis Rojas told reporters before Saturday’s game that Almora will need more time, and may not even be ready to return when the Mets begin their homestand next week.

Nimmo had just begun a rehab assignment after injuring his finger earlier this month, but suffered a setback and is still waiting to resume his assignment.

“I’m feeling pretty good right now,” Nimmo said on Saturday. “I feel like we’re pretty close to getting things going again. So, right now I’m feeling a whole lot better than I was a week ago. Very optimistic about the way things are headed right now.”

Nimmo suffered a bone bruise on his left index finger on May 3 and was quickly shut back down after feeling more pain in his first rehab assignment on May 13. He has yet to get back into game action.

“We had to take a break,” Nimmo said. “When I went back for that first game, unfortunately we reaggravated it. I kind of understood that I was going to have to be able to play through some pain, but when we finally got back to the game and game speed, I ended up reaggravating it and the swelling came back, so it unfortunately required more time and more rest, which is no swings. Hopefully getting back to swinging here pretty soon."

Nimmo and Almora are part of a crowded injured outfield crew that also includes J.D. Davis, Michael Conforto and Kevin Pillar.
