The Mets will likely be without catcher Omar Narvaez for at least two months.
Narvaez, who left Wednesday's game after tweaking his calf, is being placed on the IL with a "high-grade" left calf strain, the team announced Thursday afternoon. The Mets added that a typical timeline before returning to play from such an injury takes roughly 8-9 weeks.
Narvaez was replaced by Tomas Nido on Wednesday, and multiple reports indicate that top prospect Francisco Alvarez could be called upon to replace Narvaez, and could be on the big-league roster by Friday's home opener at Citi Field.
Narvaez went 1-for-4 on Wednesday and is batting .286 to start the young season. Alvarez has been tearing up Triple-A to start his season, posting a 1.056 OPS after hitting his second home run on Wednesday.
