After dropping another series, this time to the previously struggling Astros, the Mets sit in fourth place in the NL East at 34-40, 13.5 games back and seven games out of the Wild Card.
With five teams ahead of them in the Wild Card race, Tiki and Tierney say that the Mets are two bad weeks away from needing to do the previously unthinkable at the trade deadline.
"The Mets are two weeks of bad baseball away from being sellers, to where it's not salvageable," BT said. "If they for 3-7 over the next 10 - I'm not saying they will, but what if they do? They'll be 37-47. Some teams can come back from that. This team cannot come back from that. Not good enough."
After a day off on Thursday, the Mets travel to Philadelphia to take on a Phillies team that they have had success against recently, but the Phils have turned a corner, winners of seven of their last 10. They then battle the Brewers before meeting a red-hot Giants team at Citi Field, then hit the road to take on the first-place Diamondbacks.
If the Mets finish that stretch with a losing record, it might be time to see if Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander are willing to waive their no-trade clauses.
"That's over the midway point of the season, and there's not a solution in sight," Tiki said. "Then you have to start to sell.
"The good thing is, if that becomes the option…Scherzer will be interesting to people. Verlander also, even though he hasn't been all good. Most of his outings have been OK. Probably one of the young kids, maybe Vientos. There's not a ton of assets you can sell that's gonna get you anything, except for the two pitchers."
