As the Mets transition into a much different look than when the season began, Steve Cohen doesn't seem to see a new look coming in the manager's office.
Asked about Buck Showalter on Wednesday, Cohen stood by both his manager and general manager despite the 2023 season turning into a colossal disappointment.
"As you witnessed at the trade deadline, I think Billy did a phenomenal job," Cohen said. "Buck is working hard. I got a three-year contract with Buck, and we're only a little over a year and a half in. we're status quo.
"Anything is possible, but I got a three-year contract with Buck, and Buck is working his ass off doing a good job."
Cohen had voiced his support for Showalter and Cohen when he spoke with reporters in June, and despite more losses leading to a fire sale and a replenishing of the farm system, that support still remains, and Cohen expects Showalter to manage through the end of his contract, while noting that anything can happen.
"I can't predict the future," Cohen said. "I couldn't have predicted this…but Buck is doing everything I've asked him to do. I don't put it on Buck. I put it on the players…it's kind of unfair to put it on the manager. I think that's unfair."
