Pete Alonso covered in champagne, mustard, ketchup in 'very subtle' Mets celebration

Pete Alonso emerged from the Mets' playoff-clinching celebration covered in champagne, ketchup, and mustard.

"Yes. Mustard, I got ketchup on the back of my head," Alonso said. "I got a bunch of stuff."

A reporter joked that the celebration sounded "subdued" given the condiments that Alonso was sporting on his "October Rise" shirt given to the players after clinching.

"Very subdued," Alonso smiled. "Very subtle."

The celebration wasn't described as a boisterous one, as the Mets know there is still work to be done. But the team still felt it was important to acknowledge the first landmark in their quest to achieve their ultimate goal.

"You gotta have step one to get to the rest of 'em," Buck Showalter said.
