Pete Alonso mashed his 40th home run of the season on Tuesday night, becoming the first Met in franchise history to record multiple 40-homer seasons.
Boomer and Gio believe Alonso has many other franchise records in his future, and will likely hold the title as the greatest position player the Mets have ever had.
"He has a chance to go down as the greatest Met of all time. The greatest Mets position player of all time," Boomer said. "Assuming he stays healthy, he's gonna have more years just like he's had. He's still young enough to go out and deliver. He'll go down as the greatest Mets position player in history."
Alonso has heavy competition with the likes of Mike Piazza and Darryl Strawberry, but as a young star who could potentially be with the franchise for years to come, Alonso could finish better than anyone that has come before him.
"You think about the other best Mets position players in history. The '86 guys, their careers kind of got cut short a little bit," Gio said. "You think about Piazza and David Wright, neither of those guys won championships. Pete Alonso can be in that conversation and not win a championship."
