Joe Girardi is out of a job after being fired by the Phillies following two-plus seasons of sub-.500 baseball, and Craig Carton is wondering where the flock of Mets fans are that were up in arms when New York didn’t bring in the former Yankee skipper.
Including Evan.
“I want you to own it,” Craig told Evan during Friday’s show. “I want you to come on the radio today and say ‘Craigy, I got this one wrong.’”
Evan certainly wanted Girardi after the Mets dismissed Mickey Callaway, but New York ended up going with Carlos Beltran, and eventually Luis Rojas after Beltran never got to manage the team following the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. Girardi instead went to a Mets division rival, and it’s safe to say that didn’t quite work out.
Craig wants all those Mets fans who were calling the show demanding their team hire Girardi to remember that, and own up to it.
“‘If the New York Mets don’t sign Joe Girardi, they made a terrible mistake!’” Craig said, mocking Evan and Mets fans.
“I implore Mets fans to own it today. Today, you have to own it…every single Met fan who is alive today who was alive a couple years ago when Girardi was fired by the Phillies…every big-mouthed Met fan out there, here’s my question: you still want Joe Girardi? He’s available.”
