Boomer says upcoming series against Phillies should be 'Mets heaven'

After disposing of the lowly Reds at Citi Field, the Mets will now get ready to greet the equally-hot Phillies after a day off on Thursday.

Looking at the pitching probables, Boomer can't think of a better way for New York to be armed to take on their division rivals.

Why? Because the Mets have Max Scherzer to open the series, Jacob deGrom on Saturday, and Chris Bassitt in the series finale.

"Come on, does it get much better than that?" Boomer said.

"They're playing good, you're playing good, you've got your three horses lined up in a row. This is Met heaven. You can't ask for anything more than that."

The pitching matchups overall look fantastic on paper, with Ranger Suarez taking on Scherzer, Aaron Nola opposite deGrom, and former Met Zack Wheeler slated to face Bassitt in the finale. But regardless of who the Phillies trot out, Gio says the Mets have the advantage, and do against any team they may face the rest of the way in the regular season.

"At this point, there is nobody that is intimidating the Mets, except maybe the Dodgers," Gio said. "You used to say 'Man, four with the Braves, two with the Yankees, this is going to be a tough stretch.' The Mets right now are better than every team they're going to play in the next few games, and that includes the Yankees, because they're playing a hell of a lot better than them right now."
