Did PitchCom issues, constant timeouts disrupt Chris Bassitt's rhythm?

The Citi Field fans brought the energy to start Sunday’s must-win game three against the Padres, but did their raucous noise hurt the Mets in the top of the second?

Pitching in a scoreless tie, Chris Bassitt was one out away from his second scoreless inning, then needed a mound visit, a glove pressed against his ear, and maybe just some peace and quiet as he tried to hear the signs from Tomas Nido via PitchCom.

Suddenly, two straight walks and an RBI single by Austin Nola plated two runs to give San Diego an early 2-0 lead.

Bassitt clearly couldn’t hear the signs from his PitchCom device, and seemed to be having his rhythm interrupted by another source: the Padres hitters consistently asking for timeout.

Buck Showalter had a discussion with home plate umpire Chris Conroy after the top of the third, which many assumed was about the San Diego lineup asking for time on so many occasions, but when asked about it by Buster Olney on the TV broadcast, Showalter didn’t give an answer, and said it wasn’t disrupting Bassitt’s rhythm.
