Welcome to the Travis Jankowski era, take two, in New York.
This time it’s western New York, as per SNY’s Andy Martino, the Mets have re-signed Jankowski to a minor-league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Syracuse.

Jankowski had been with the Mets organization for most of the season, but was designated for assignment when the team acquired Tyler Naquin. The Mariners claimed Jankowski on waivers on August 1, but he appeared in just one game and made one plate appearance – striking out against the Yankees in the Bronx on August 2 after entering a game as a defensive replacement – before being DFA on August 5 and released on August 10.
The 31-year-old hit .167 in 63 plate appearances over 43 games with the Mets in his first stint, and is a career .236 hitter in 470 MLB games over eight seasons with the Padres, Reds, Phillies, Mets, and Mariners.
Jankowski was set to begin this season at Syracuse after signing with the Mets on a minor-league deal last winter, but he made the Mets’ opening day roster. He did end up playing five rehab games in Syracuse, hitting .333 while rehabbing a broken hand in mid-July.
Now, Jankowski joins a Syracuse outfield that is a bit short-handed due to injuries to Jake Mangum and Carlos Rincon. The Triple-A Mets have just three true outfielders in Khalil Lee, Nick Plummer, and Terrance Gore, although Daniel Palka (16 games) and Travis Blankenhorn (41 games) have seen time in the outfielder, and Dominic Smith was just optioned to Triple-A on Thursday after being activated off the major-league injured list.
