The Mets received a crop of reinforcements prior to Friday’s Subway Series opener.
Reliever Jeurys Familia, who has been out with a right hip impingement since June 21, has been activated for the weekend series against the Yankees, as has catcher Tomas Nido, who was on the IL after being hit by a pitch on the wrist, also on June 21, is back with the team and active for Friday night.
Brandon Nimmo has also been reinstated from the IL to give New York an outfield boost. Nimmo has been out for nearly two months after tearing a ligament in his hand.
While a trio of Mets return (a quartet if you count Marcus Stroman, who is back from the Bereavement List and is scheduled to pitch tomorrow), the team does lose another player, as David Peterson was placed on the 10-day IL, retroactive to July 1. Peterson left his last outing with side soreness and manager Luis Rojas told reporters the lefty was feeling “really tight” the next day and was unlikely to make his next start.
Catcher Patrick Mazeika, pitcher Thomas Szapucki and infielder Travis Blankenhorn were optioned to Triple-A as corresponding moves.
