Carlos Beltran is headed back to the New York Mets.
Audacy MLB insider Jon Heyman wrote for the New York Post that the Mets are hiring Beltran to work in their front office under general manager Billy Eppler.
Beltran spent last season working in the YES Network booth calling a select number of games for the New York Yankees. He was expected to move into a studio role for the 2023 season prior to joining the Mets staff.
What Beltran’s specific role in the Mets front office yet is still unknown, but it marks a return to the organization after he was fired three years ago as manager before managing a single game due to his role in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal.
Beltran was the only player from the 2017 Astros to suffer any consequences, although the Mets were not obligated to discipline Beltran at the time. He was replaced by Luis Rojas who served as manager for two seasons before Buck Showalter was hired in 2022.
