Mets reportedly land Cedric Mullins to address center field need

The Mets have reportedly addressed another area of need, as their center field hole has been filled.

According to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, New York has acquired Cedric Mullins from the Orioles in exchange for Raimon Gomez, Anthony Nunez, and Chandler Marsh. Mullins gives the Mets another option with Tyrone Taylor struggling and Jose Siri on the shelf.

Mullins, 30, has been just above league average this season based on OPS+, and is batting .229 with a .738 OPS and 15 home runs. It is still a clear offensive upgrade over Taylor, and gives the lineup some much-needed length.

Mullins, a 2021 All-Star, is a free agent at the end of this season.

The acquisition of Mullins is the latest in a busy deadline by David Stearns so far, as he has also bolstered the bullpen with Tyler Rogers and Ryan Helsley.

Mullins has been noticeably better against lefties this season, posting an .866 OPS against southpaws compared to .689 against righties.
