The Yankees own the big free agency news in New York as of Wednesday morning, but the Mets made a move of their own to bolster their pitching staff.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Mets have signed lefty veteran Jose Quintana to a two-year deal worth $26 million, helping ease the loss of Taijuan Walker, who signed a four-year deal with the rival Phillies late Tuesday night.
Quintana, soon to be 34 years old, enjoyed a resurgent season in 2022, pitching to a 2.93 ERA in 32 starts. He was traded to the Cardinals from the Pirates and only improved, posting a 2.01 ERA over 12 starts in St. Louis.
He pitched for the Angels and Giants in 2021, but struggled, logging a 6.43 ERA in 29 starts, and posted a 4.68 ERA in his previous full season, making 32 starts with the Cubs in 2019.
For his 11-year career, the 2016 All-Star holds a 3.75 ERA.
