Mets reportedly willing to deal Mark Vientos, have discussed him in trade talks

Less than nine months since tearing the MLB playoffs up in a perceived step towards stardom, Mark Vientos is suddenly a potential trade chip.

According to SNY MLB insider Andy Martino, the Mets have been discussing Vientos in trade talks this week, and “rival executives believe that the team is willing to move him.” The trade deadline is just days away, and New York has a crop of young infielders who have shown varying degrees of hype or disappointment between Vientos, Brett Baty, and Ronny Mauricio, and per Martino, the Mets seem most willing to part with the 25-year-old Vientos at the deadline.

Vientos had a career year in 2024, blasting 27 home runs whole posting an .837 OPS before going on an October tear that saw him hit five home runs with a .998 OPS. But he has struggled at the plate and in the field so far this season, batting .226 with a lowly .638 OPS and just six home runs in 279 plate appearances. Meanwhile, Mauricio is posting a solid .761 OPS with five homers since being called up at the beginning of June, while Baty, who has had an up and down career so far himself, is batting .300 with an .895 OPS in his last 50 at-bats.

The Mets currently hold the top spot in the NL East while riding a seven-game winning streak.
