The Mets are on the brink of elimination heading into Saturday night’s game against the Padres, but one former Met is still in good shape to get a World Series ring this year.
Robinson Cano, cut by New York earlier in the season after rosters slimmed to 26, would receive the notable piece of jewelry if the Mets fight off elimination and ultimately win their first title since 1986, but would also be considered a world champ if either the Braves or Padres win it all.
Cano was picked up by San Diego after the Mets parted ways, but after hitting .091 in 12 games at the major league level, he was picked up by Atlanta, where he hit .154 in nine games. So, of any of those three teams are the last standing, Cano will get the second World Series ring of his career.
Only one of the Mets or Padres will advance, but it still means Cano will have two teams in the NLDS to help him get a ring. Those aren’t bad odds.
