The Mets just lost only their second series of the season, and snapped a franchise-best record of 14 straight wins following a loss with a second straight defeat to the Giants on Wednesday.
Starting next week, New York will be back out west for what Boomer is calling a pivotal month that could play a big role in determining the team's fate for the season.
"This is where it get hot and heavy," Boomer said during Thursday's show. "This is where they have that west coast trip, and they're all top end teams. They have the Houston Astros in there…their schedule through June now, this is the money spot."
New York begins the months of June with a series finale against the lowly Nationals, but after that, their next four series are against the Dodgers, Padres, Angels, and Brewers, all of whom represent some of the top teams in baseball, and the first three are on the road. They also have two series against the Astros, one at home and one on the road, representing another dynamic team capable of sweeping any series.
The tough opponents ahead, and the injuries that the Mets have dealt with, leave Boomer concerned that the team fan follow a similar trajectory as last year in the upcoming month.
"Last year, they got off to a good start, things were going well, and the bottom fell out," Boomer said.
"Right now, they're seven games up on the Braves. This is the moment where they have to somehow stay around .500 through the month of June. I don't know if they'll be able to do it. It's rough for them."
