The Mets announced Monday that they have sent struggling third baseman Brett Baty down to Triple-A, and placed Starling Marte on the IL with a groin strain.

Baty, who went hitless for the sixth straight game on Sunday, is batting just .216 on the year with seven home runs and a lowly 73 OPS+ in 278 at-bats. He has also had his share of struggles defensively since taking over the everyday role when Eduardo Escobar was traded.

The hyped prospect was the team’s 12th overall pick in 2019, and the Mets have high hopes that Baty can be the team’s next third base cornerstone, following in the footsteps of David Wright.

Marte, who underwent groin surgery in the offseason, has also struggled most of the year, batting .248 with five home runs and a 75 OPS+, 25 percent below league average.

An All-Star last season, Marte is signed through 2025 on a four-year, $78 million deal.
