Mets set MLB, franchise records after literally walking all over pathetic A's

It was a true merry-go-round for the Mets against the pitiful A’s on Friday night in Oakland.

Taking advantage of a team with clearly no aspirations to win any games in 2023, New York got their steps in, and then some, by walking a franchise-record 17 times in a blowout win to open up their 10-game west coast trip.

The Mets were also hit by a pitch twice in a 17-run outburst highlighted by Francisco Lindor’s seven RBI, tying a career high.

The Mets spent so much time at the plate that starter Kodai Senga was throwing pitches from the bullpen mound during the action to stay loose for whenever it was time to get back on the mound. Remarkably, he was able to stay much more sharp than the stable of arms that the A’s trotted out in an embarrassing performance.

Starter James Kaprielian, a former Yankee prospect, walked seven in just 3.2 innings of work, while former Met Jeurys Familia walked four in just 1.1 innings. In all likelihood, the Mets can continue to beat up on Oakland this weekend, as will nearly every other team in the league this season.
