The Mets have reportedly bolstered their DH spot, a position that has been an area of need for years.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Mets have signed free agent J.D. Martinez to a one-year, $12 million deal. The deal gives New York a proven veteran bat at DH, which was initially going to be mainly occupied by youngsters Mark Vientos and Brett Baty.
Now, the Mets have a bat in the middle of the order that cranked 33 home runs with an .893 OPS in 432 at-bats last season. The 36-year-old is a six-time All-Star, and has earned a spot in the Midsummer Classic in each of the past three seasons.
More to come.
