The New York Mets officially announced Wednesday that they have signed outfielder Albert Almora Jr. to a one-year contract. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Corey Oswalt was designated for assignment.
Terms of the deal were not released, but RADIO.COM Sports MLB insider Jon Heyman reports Almora Jr. will make a $1.25 million base salary, with $100,000 incentives for reaching 200, 250, and 300 plate appearances.
Almora Jr., 26, was selected by the Cubs No. 6 overall in the 2012 Draft and spent his entire career in that organization, making his MLB debut in 2016. Last year, he hit .167 in 28 games, and he has a career .271/.309/.398 slash line over five major-league seasons.
