The Mets announced on Thursday afternoon that Starling Marte underwent surgery earlier this week to address a core muscle injury that he suffered during the season, and while he will need roughly two months to recover, he is expected to be ready for spring training in 2023.
"Starling Marte underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a core muscle injury sustained in the second half of this season," the statement read. "A typical recovery timeline is 8 weeks. He's expected to be without restriction in Spring Training."
Marte was an All-Star for the Mets in his first season with the team, batting batting .292 with 16 home runs and 18 stolen bases. He was out for the stretch run of the season after suffering a fractured finger as a result of being hit by a pitch, but toughed out the discomfort during New York's Wild Card Series loss to the Padres.
Turns out, Marte was dealing with even more discomfort than initially thought.
