The trade deadline frenzy is likely still a month away, but with the Mets firmly in first place in the NL East, it's safe to say Steve Cohen and company will be buyers.
Not surprisingly, the billionaire owner won't take anything off the table in terms of a move that could take his team one step closer to a World Series.
"I'm not ruling out anything," Cohen told Jon Heyman when asked about his deadline plan. "It would be dumb to rule anything out. You always have to keep your optionality."
Of course, a month can solidify a team's spot atop the league or send it into a freefall, as previous Mets teams have shown in the past, particularly in the month of June. But halfway through the month, New York is still holding strong despite being down its two best pitchers, coming back home after a 5-5 west coast trip that included a series split with the Dodgers.
But once the deadline draws closer and the Mets' needs become more clear, Cohen will react accordingly. But it seems like a power bat would be one of the likeliest needs to put New York over the top.
"A lot can change," Cohen told Heyman. "When we get to that point we will figure it out"
