When the Mets take the field for their home opener on Friday at Citi Field, they will be wearing a sponsorship patch on their uniforms for the first time in franchise history.

The team announced Thursday morning that the franchise has agreed to a long-term partnership with local healthcare system NewYork-Presbyterian, and a logo of NewYork-Presbyterian will be on the team’s uniforms.

Also included in the partnership will be cancer screenings and blood drives at the ballpark and in the community, “interactive wellness experiences” for fans at Citi Field, and Mets onesies given to every newborn that is born at NewYork-Presbyterian.

Uniform patches are part of the future in MLB, and the Mets are the latest to join the trend. The Yankees reportedly will at some point, but are waiting for the right partnership.
