The Mets received some good injury news before Thursday's series finale against the Dodgers, as top prospect Francisco Alvarez will not need ankle surgery.
The team announced Thursday that Alvarez will receive an injection in his right ankle and potentially restart baseball activities in less than a week.
The Triple-A season is winding down, so Alvarez may still not see any more game action this season, but not needing surgery means the catcher could still be a potential option for the Mets as a September call-up, though New York said in August that there was no immediate plans to bring up the top overall prospect in baseball.
Alvarez has a "loose body" in his right ankle that has kept him off the field since Aug. 23.
