The Mets clearly are in need of bullpen help after blowing three three-run leads in as many nights against the Braves, and they are reportedly looking into a notable name.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, New York has been “tracking” Reds closer Alexis Diaz, brother to Mets injured relief ace Edwin Diaz, as Alexis could become available via trade if Cincinnati decides to sell. The Reds have performed above expectations in 2023, but are still five games below .500 and five games back in the underwhelming NL Central.
Alexis, 26, has posted a sparkling 1.48 ERA this season while converting on all 14 of his save opportunities. In 24.1 innings of work, he has 46 strikeouts with a 0.822 WHIP.
Last season, the righty was equally dominant, pitching to a 1.84 ERA with 83 strikeouts over 63.2 innings.
