The Mets continued their sell-off with an expected departure, as Tommy Pham has been traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for low-level prospect Jeremy Rodriguez, according to multiple reports.
One of those, from the New York Post's Mike Puma, noted that Pham reported to the Mets' clubhouse today, went into manager Buck Showalter's office, and then left in street clothes, indirectly signifying his exit.
Pham, a free agent at the end of the season, was considered to be perhaps the final prime trade candidate for a team that had already parted with David Robertson, Max Scherzer, Mark Canha, and Justin Verlander.
One of the team’s top offensive performers this season, Pham holds an .820 OPS on the season with 10 home runs in 231 at-bats, including an .871 OPS against lefties. He was signed to a one-year, $6 million contract.
The Mets have turned to all-out sellers thanks to a disappointing season that put them seven games back of a playoff spot before they began selling off their veteran assets.
The return for Pham is Rodriguez, a 17-year-old who was ranked as the No. 47 prospect in this year's international draft class. The lefty hitter, a shortstop, played 36 games for Arizona Black in the Dominican Summer League, slashing .256.371/.393 with two home runs, 18 RBI, 12 stolen bases, 21 walks against 26 strikeouts, and 24 runs scored.
