Trevor May’s triceps injury is reportedly worse than originally anticipated.

The Mets reliever was placed on the 15-day IL with triceps inflammation on Tuesday, but SNY’s Steve Gelbs reports that the right has a stress reaction on the lower part of his humerus, and will be shut down from throwing for four weeks.

If stress reaction sounds familiar, it is what Jacob deGrom was diagnosed with in his scapula when he reported shoulder tightness. He was also shut down for at least four weeks, and hopes to return some time in June.

May has pitched to an 8.64 ERA this season, and after he allowed another two runs in his outing against the Braves on Monday, told reporters he wasn’t feeling 100 percent and was headed for an MRI. It appears there was something physical hampering his ability to perform on the mound.
