Trevor May was ineffective again on Monday, allowing two runs in one inning of work to increase a narrow 3-2 deficit to a 5-2 cushion for the Braves in the eighth inning.
His season ERA is now 8.64.
But May believes his struggles are health related, revealing after Monday’s loss that he hasn’t been feeling his best, and will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.
"I’m not feeling 100 percent healthy,” May said. “Trying to work through some stuff. Not really battling through it. It’s hard to compete when you’re just worried if something is going to hurt when you throw, to the point where I’m not very comfortable throwing my best pitches and taking too much time in between pitches to reset and try to get a little bit of energy to throw another one. By the end I was hoping that the ball was hit to someone. That’s no way to throw in a major league game."
May said the MRI will focus on his triceps, which was giving him trouble earlier in the season, though it didn’t result in an IL stint. He is hoping this won’t either, but above all, wants to get some answers as to what is going on and keeping him from performing at his best.
“That’s as frustrating as anything in my life right now,” May said. “It feels like I’m throwing at 80 percent most of the time.
“I’ll do anything to get back to feeling like me…I need to know what to do to feel good again. I just want to go out there and go after guys. That’s all I want.”
