Tylor Megill was asked to pitch on Tuesday night rather than Wednesday, so Kodai Senga could continue his schedule of getting an extra day of rest.
Senga, one of the Mets’ prized free agent acquisitions this past offseason, says he “appreciates” the extra rest, as it is what he was used to while pitching in Japan.
Megill didn’t seem to respond well to the change, at least when looking at his performance, as he allowed six runs in a loss to the Cubs on Tuesday, failing to escape the fourth inning.
But BT says the flip-flopping to accommodate Senga is something Megill is going to have to get used to, or he won’t be on the roster for long.
“Tylor Megill is just gonna have to adjust, or Tylor Megill is gonna be in the minors,” BT said. “Because this is the way it's gonna be.”
Tiki’s counter was that Senga’s need for extra rest could have a ripple effect through the rest of the rotation, and four arms could be affected rather than one.
“They’re walking such a fine line, these Mets are, and if you disrupt it, who knows how bad it gets?” Tiki said. “You fall into that malaise that they had two weeks ago.”
BT still says that the Mets need to prioritize Senga’s efficiency, as he has become one of the more important arms in the rotation.
“If you interrupt Senga's schedule, it might even be worse,” BT said. “I don't know if I'm willing to find out.”
