In a season that has featured a promising velocity spike and a 2.43 ERA through his first six starts, Wednesday's outing was one to forget for Tylor Megill.
The righty was roughed up by the Nationals, failing to make it out of the second inning as he allowed eight earned runs on eight hits, as his ERA ballooned to 4.41 and his FIP to 3.35.
"An outing like this, as bad as it went, you just can't dwell over it. Flush it," Megill said. "Obviously it was a bad outing. But I'm capable of wat more."
Megill won't dwell on what was one of the worst outings of his young career, but that doesn't mean he won't take some kind of learning lesson.
"There are things you can take from it, obviously," Megill said. "Just getting ahead of hitters. I didn't do a good job of that. Too many fastballs. That's on me. End of the day, just got to be better."
Wednesday's clunker is certainly an anomaly for Megill, who has more than stepped up in the absence of Jacob deGrom, so there likely isn't much cause for concern, and Megill himself certainly won't but too much stock into it.
"I'm not going to let this one define me," Megill said. "Just get ready for the next one."
