The Mets will have some key infield prospects at camp this spring, and the team reportedly wants one of their top draft picks in franchise history to help them along.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets want David Wright to work with Mark Vientos and Brett Baty as the two prepare for a pivotal spring training starting next month. Wright, who has attended spring trainings for the Mets in recent years, would be trying to set Vientos and Baty on the same trajectory that saw him become a star third baseman for the franchise, and one of the best homegrown talents the organization has ever produced.

Baty and Vientos each saw minimal time at the big-league level in 2022.
Baty, the team’s second-ranked prospect, per MLB.com, hit .184 with two home runs in 42 plate appearances, playing 11 games at third base. Vientos, the team’s seventh-ranked prospect, saw similar time and hit .167 with a home run in 41 plate appearances, playing two games at the hot corner and the rest as the DH.

With the Mets letting Carlos Correa go due to medical concerns, the long-term third base spot is wide open, and the team hopes that either Baty or Vientos can meet their hype. Baty, the more coveted prospect, showed promise early on after he was called up last season, and thrived between Double-A and Triple-A in 2022, batting .315 with 19 home runs in 95 games. Vientos played in 101 minor league games last season, all with Triple-A Syracuse, and hit .280 with 24 home runs.
