Sal says Mets will still make playoffs, but Jerry sees a 'broken' team

Heading into the Subway Series, the outlook isn't great for the slumping Mets, but Sal believes they will improve enough, and their competition will regress enough, to open the door for a playoff berth.

"I don't think anybody else in the National League is very good, and I think Francisco Lindor will pick it up," Sal said. "At some point, some of these guys have to play to their Baseball Reference page. I'm not saying that's an accomplishment, and I'm not saying 'Just get in, the Phillies made it to the World Series.' This team isn't going anywhere, but I still do think they're gonna make the postseason.

"We're talking about an expanded playoff. Right now, the Marlins are in a spot. The Giant are 34-32, the Mets are three games out. Again, there are five or six teams in front of them. If this team, with that talent, doesn't turn this thing around to get into the postseason - which, by the way, would still be a failure - I'd be stunned."

Jerry doesn't share that optimism.

"I just think they look broken," Jerry said. "They're just not that good…I can't come up with too many stretches where this team has clicked in all facets, and it's the middle of June."
