The Mets re-signed Scott Boras client Brandon Nimmo last week, and the two were at Citi Field on Thursday for Nimmo’s re-introduction press conference – and that’s when the media found out about the status of another Boras outfielder: Michael Conforto.

According to Boras, Conforto is fully healthy, and he’s looking for a “short-term” contract as he returns from shoulder surgery that sidelined him for all of 2022.
“Michael is in Arizona, he’s doing great, he’s throwing normally again, back to full health, hitting great and we’re talking to a number of teams about him right now,” Boras said, adding this of the contract Conforto is looking for: “It’s going to be short-term, probably a couple of years with an opt-out.”
Boras wouldn’t say if the Mets were one of those teams, slyly saying, “you’ll have to ask Billy Eppler about that,” but Ken Rosenthal has reported that Conforto and J.D. Martinez are both on the Mets’ radar as a possible upgrade at DH.
Conforto, who turns 30 on March 1, slashed .322/.412/.515 with nine home runs in the shortened 2020 season, but struggled to .232/.344/.384 with 14 homers in 125 games in a 2021 that also saw him miss five weeks with a hamstring strain.
Not the best performance heading into free agency, especially after reportedly declining a nine-figure extension from the Mets that spring, and Conforto also rejected the qualifying offer that fall – and he ended up missing all of last year due to shoulder surgery after suffering an injury working out in January during the lockout.
The Astros reportedly offered Conforto a two-year, $30 million deal in August just before the postseason eligibility deadline, but he turned that down as well.
