Morash: Mets trade deadline may not be as 'sexy' as many fans believe

Amid reports that the Mets will be looking to add at the trade deadline, Morash isn't so sure that it will be as much of an all-in week for New York that some fans may be looking for amid the team's extended hot streak.

Given the large crop of perceived buyers, with several of them having similar roster needs, Morash believes the trade deadline could be a disappointment for Mets fans, and the bullpen won't be as reinforced as many believe it needs to be, especially with Dedniel Nunez hitting the IL with a right pronator strain.

"That tells me you're not going to see a lot of Nunez before the playoffs," Morash said, noting that recovery time for a pronator strain is typically 6-8 weeks. "If that is gonna be the case, and you just saw the price that an A.J. Puk went for, I have a hard time envisioning the Mets getting more than one really good bullpen arm, considering everybody in baseball needs bullpen arms.

"That is gonna be a major bugaboo for this team. Thank God for Butto coming out of the bullpen right now. The Met bullpen is going to blow games for them the rest of the year, and I'm not so sure the trade deadline is going to completely fix this. This Nunez injury could be a complete, complete blow for them, even if it isn't as 'sexy' as a Francisco Lindor type injury."

As relievers already begin moving, Morash isn't sure who will be left for the Mets to grab, and believes that while the story of the team's season so far is incredible, the trade deadline may not equal that level of surprised excitement.

"You're seeing these names fly off [the shelves]," Morash said. "I'm not so sure if this is gonna be as sexy of a deadline for Mets fans as you may have anticipated."
