Jacob DeGrom MRI Comes Back 'Clean' With 'No Problems Whatsoever'

By WFAN.com

It appears that Mets fans can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to the health of Jacob deGrom.

The reigning NL Cy Young winner was placed on the injured list by the Mets on Friday. The team said he was dealing with soreness in his throwing arm after a throwing session and that they were acting with an "abundance of caution."

DeGrom returned early from the Mets' trip to St. Louis so that he could undergo an MRI in New York. General manager Brodie Van Wagenen announced to the press Monday that deGrom's MRI had come back clean, and that he is close to returning to action.

"The MRI was good, clean, no problems whatsoever," said Van Wagenen. "Jacob threw a bullpen today and he's on track to make his start when he's able to come off (the injured list)."

DeGrom will have another bullpen session on Wednesday, and then is set to start Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

His last start came during a 7-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves. It wasn't a great outing by deGrom's lofty standards. The 30-year-old went five innings and gave up three earned runs and two home runs. In his start prior to that, he was even worse. On that occasion, deGrom gave up six runs in four innings against the Minnesota Twins.

DeGrom is 2-2 with a 3.68 ERA and 36 strikeouts so far this season. The Mets will be hoping that the week off can refresh deGrom and get him back towards the historic form he showed last year and earlier this season.
