BT shuts down idea of Pete Alonso returning to Mets in free agency if traded

Sal broached the idea of Pete Alonso taking the Aroldis Chapman route next winter, meaning he would be traded by the Mets to further replenish the farm system, then sign back with New York in free agency.

BT says there is zero shot of Alonso coming back to the Mets if they ship him out.

"I hate to rain on everybody's parade…I hate to break the news to everybody, including you Sal," BT said. "If they trade Alonso mid-season - and I know you're gonna say, what about Chapman? There is 0.00% chance that Alonso comes back. He will say screw you Mets.

"He's already mad about being dangled to the Brewers. Now they're gonna trade him midseason, he's already mad he doesn't have a contract, then they're gonna trade him, and he's gonna come back? That's not happening."

BT would trade Alonso if he were in David Stearns' shoes, but he would do it with full belief that it would mean saying goodbye to the homegrown slugger for good. He believes Alonso, if traded, could even wind up taking less money from another team if it meant not coming back to Queens.

"At that point it might take a comparable deal or maybe even a little bit less," BT said. "He's not coming back. Stop with the pipe dream. If Pete was traded midseason, he is not walking back on a seven-year contract.

"I don't think Pete loves it here anyway."
