Noah Syndergaard hit a new low on his season on Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings of work in a loss to the Nationals.
Syndergaard’s clunker came just days after he was annihilated for six runs on eight hits against the Rays, and his season ERA sits at a lowly 6.54.
After Wednesday’s game, a dejected Syndergaard told reporters that he would “give away my hypothetical first-born to be the old me,” as he longed for his old velocity that made him a phenom with the Mets.
But Gio wasn’t sure exactly what Syndergaard was longing for.
“What’s the old you, pitching one inning in two years and acting like some sort of God?” Gio said. “What is the old you?”
Syndergaard didn’t leave New York with many friends among the Mets fanbase, as injuries soured the end of his tenure, and comments about playing in New York after he left didn’t help mend those wounds. But still, Gio did offer a piece of friendly advice to Syndergaard.
“You know who he should call? Brooks Koepka,” Gio said, noting the once-struggling golfer who revitalized his career. “During that ‘Full Swing’ documentary, he sounded exactly like that. Then he competed at The Masters and won the PGA…now Brooks is back.”
