The Mets saw their winning streak end in Chicago on Tuesday night, but Pete Alonso made franchise history with his latest home run.
The Mets slugger launched his 18th home run of the season, giving him the more home runs through the first 50 games of a season than any other player in team history.
That 18th blast of the year also put Alonso on pace for 60 home runs in 2023, as the first baseman makes his case for a big payday, and perhaps even a flirtation with Aaron Judge's 62 home runs from last season.
It wouldn't be the first time Alonso made a run at a mark set by Judge, as he broke Judge's rookie home run record in 2019 when he launched 53 bombs two years after Judge hit 52.
