Pete Alonso would not really miss it if Juan Soto were to be traded from the Washington Nationals.

The New York Mets first baseman had nothing but great things to say about the 23-year-old slugger, but added that playing against him isn’t a whole lot of fun.

“I like him personally, but competing against him is not enjoyable because typically he’s doing what Juan does,” Alonso told reporters on Monday before both sluggers were set to take the stage in the Home Run Derby. “He’s an excellent player. He’s a championship player…I just wish him all the best.”

It is certainly possible the Mets could be one of those teams who wins the Soto sweepstakes.

An SNY report on Sunday indicated that the Mets were among the teams the Nationals view that could put together the right kind of deal in order to acquire the two-time All-Star.

Such a deal — which would involve the organizations top prospects and/or other key young players — may not materialize prior to the Aug. 2 trade deadline, but just because the Mets are a division rival would necessarily rule them out.

Plus, Soto even said it himself how much he loves playing in Citi Field.

“Playing in New York, against the Mets, I love it,” he said on Monday. “I love to play against them and hit the ball far. If you see my numbers at that field, it’s amazing. For me…it’s a great feeling.”

In 30 games at Citi Field, Soto is batting .350/.464/.709 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI and an OPS of 1.173 — his highest in any park he’s played at least 10 games in.

Perhaps it would be more enjoyable for Alonso if the two were teammates? At this point, it’s anyone’s guess where he ends up.
