With the Mets holding a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning on Wednesday night, the Phillies tried to find a spark via the hit and run, but as Kody Clemens took off for second, Edmundo Sosa ripped a line drive right at Francisco Lindor, setting up an easy double play.
With Clemens already at second base by the time Lindor caught the liner, the Mets shortstop was able to easily flick a nonchalant bouncer over to first base to retire Clemens, a throw that the Phillies TV announcers did not care for at all.
"Oh my gosh, he just flips it and rolls it over to first base," play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy said. "It's almost like a 'showing me up' thing."
Color commentator Ben Davis wasn't happy about the throw either.
"Couldn't have just tagged him?" Davis said. "Not a big fan. Be a little bit more professional about it…salt in the wound."
